Meteor Mobile Communications was established in 2001 having being awarded Ireland’s 3rd mobile licence.
With the primary aim of bringing real competition and its benefits to the Irish mobile market, we’ve enjoyed unprecedented growth and now has 18.9% share of the mobile market with 975,000 subscribers as of 31st March 2008!
A Meteor customer is confident and smart; they are street savvy and independent thinkers who make their own choices and have a sense of fun.
Reaching the 975,000 customer mark is the latest in a series of milestones highlighting our rapid growth in the past years, and is part of a long list of accolades that include:
- Meteor has national coverage, with 99.95% of calls connected first time round
- Our 237 roaming partners in 133 destinations
- Eircom, Meteor's parent company was awarded Ireland's third 3G mobile licence in March 2007. Meteor is currently rolling out its 3G network while following the regulations set down by the regulator Comreg.
- High-Speed Mobile Data (EDGE), offering speeds greater than GPRS/2.5G
- Becoming the only operator to abolish all charges to receive calls for Pre Pay customers, as part of the introduction of new UK and Northern Ireland call rates
- We are the first telecoms organisation to be awarded the OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Standard for all business activities
- We are the first telcoms organisation to be awarded the OHSAS 14001 Environmental Standard for all environmental activities
- We continue to invest in Direct and Indirect channels of distribution and have recently opened our 38th Meteor branded retail store
Research we’ve undertaken has also demonstrated the growth of the network as more customers make the move to Meteor. Figures show that over seven out of ten of our customers have at least five friends, family or colleagues who are also Meteor customers.
Since November ‘05 Meteor Mobile Communications is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eircom Group plc.
