Deirdre McGrane :
Financial Analyst

I work as a Financial Analyst looking after the Capex spend for the company. Originally, when I joined Meteor the first time, I thought it would be a good place to work as it had such a young work force, good social club and overall a good benefits package. I guess it was the very same things that got me to come back again in 2006 after taking some time out to go travelling.

Over the last number of years we have seen lots of changes within the company with new people joining and also an increase in different nationalities working within Meteor which is great to see.

The top reasons for me enjoying work here are: Location (nothing worse than spending hours each day commuting), the people in Meteor, and The Off Air Club who are great at organising different events throughout the year. This gives people a chance to mix with others that they wouldn’t see on a day to day basis. My role can be very challenging at times and keeps me on my toes. I deal with business case submissions for both Technical and IT. As a non technical person this can be tough when trying to understand what the submissions are about and how they fit into the plan. From a financial perspective, I’m kept on my toes trying to monitor the spend and keeping a close eye on our budgets.

Finally, I have attended some internal training courses. As a member of CPA I am duty bound to fulfil an obligation of required training so have managed this by attending external courses also.

Edward Shinkins:
Test Manager

I work as Test Manager within Meteor. From the interviews it was clear that Meteor was young, energetic and a driven company. It was also clear that Meteor was determined to offer existing and new subscribers top quality products and services. This is borne out by our continued growth in subscribers over the years.

Everyone in Meteor works hard to ensure the continued success of the company and understand that this is achieved by working well together. All departments that I have worked with have always been willing to give their busy time to help out in any way they can. In addition, Meteor works hard to ensure all staff members have the best facilities possible, are rewarded for their work and have everything they need to make their career with the company a success.

The top five reasons for me enjoying work here are: the people, the people, the people, the people & the people. Everyday brings new and exciting challenges to the job as Meteor continue to add to their product and services to increase customer satisfaction and experience.

Training and development in Meteor is very good. Through the internal courses and Educational Assistance programmes it helps increase employees skill-set required for the job and personal development.

Nicola Kearns:
Human Resources Business Partner

I have been with Meteor for the past seven years, joining a few months before the Meteor network was launched. I moved to the Human Resources department four years ago from my previous role as Customer Care Retention Supervisor. I now hold the role of HR Business Partner for the areas of Finance, Customer Care and Human Resources.

My role covers a wide array of tasks and each day presents new challenges. The support and guidance of the strong Management team in Meteor ensures that we have the skills required to carry out the requirements of our roles. Throughout my career in Meteor I have had the opportunity to attend many training courses both internal and external. The courses available to me have accounted for the various roles I have held.

Meteor is a fast paced company where change is a constant factor. This leads to a proactive, lively environment where we gain exposure to new opportunities within our roles. It is exciting working with Meteor since launch and to see the progression of the company from a start up position to the successful company it is today. My colleagues on my own team and throughout the company provide an enjoyable and supportive environment to work in. There is always someone to help you out or provide guidance when you need it.

Our sports and social club, “The Off Air Club” organise great social events where we get to meet with other team members outside of meetings and the work environment.

I think when people first join Meteor they are a little surprised by the openness and friendliness of people and quickly build strong working relationships with their colleagues. The achievements of Meteor and the speed of our growth is mirrored by the commitment and work ethics of the teams.

Maria Crowley:
Retail Area Manager

I am employed as an Retail Area Manager within Meteor. Two of my friends worked for Meteor and they spoke very highly of the company.

Career development is definitely what I enjoy most about Meteor. I started as a part-time sales consultant and when I finished college I started working full time until I decided what to do but I found a career in Meteor and worked my way up. I also love the Grafton Street store as it is so spacious so I can do training, one to ones and staff meetings all in the store. I know a lot of people working in Meteor so I find that there is a very positive culture and most people I know have moved up in their roles or want to move up sp there is also a very proactive attitude.

The top five reasons for me enjoying work here are: Career Progression, Recognition from my Area Manager and above, Great pay structure, Job Satisfaction and benefits such as VHI. It was a steep learning curve when I moved to the Patrick Street store and such a challenge. Because I was challenged throughout my career in Meteor it has made me very confident in my role now.

Training and Development in Meteor is good. I have done several courses including Performance Management, Competency based interviewing and First Aid training.

Ciara Coghlan:
Customer Care Manager

I work as the Customer Care Manager within Meteor. I started before the launch of the Network so what initially attracted me was the Start Up element of the job and the fact that I was getting in at the ground level and working on setting up the customer care department from scratch. What has kept me here are the people I have worked with over the years, the challenge of a dynamic environment and the opportunities for progression.

Within Customer Care the culture is very open and honest and you are rewarded for hard work and effort. Recognition is also an important part of the culture as well as good team work.

The top five reasons for me enjoying work here are:

1) People I work with
2) Benefits
3) Location
4) Ability to progress
5) Reward and recognition for hard work

I have been fortunate to have the same manager for the 7 years I have worked in Meteor and she has inspired me by having confidence in my ability and challenging me with things that I did not think I would be capable of. My team mates inspire me by their willingness to help in times of difficulty and they all pull together to make something happen.

As Meteor is so fast paced and changes happen so regularly it is a constant challenge. My team has grown, the customer base has grown significantly and the market has changed which have all provided challenges.
